PRONIA Annual Fundraising GALA Cancelled With due regard to the growing concerns around the spread of the COVID-19 virus and keeping the health and safety of PRONIA’s community at large, it is now confirmed that the Annual Fundraising Gala which was scheduled for Friday 18th February has been cancelled. Now Hiring Community Care Workers

Meet Ilias, a Community Care Worker of PRONIA. Ilias loves his job and the fact that ‘not one day is the same’. He believes that the Greek community in Melbourne has created very strong bonds and he is very proud to contribute to it through his work as a community care worker of PRONIA. Dear friends of PRONIA, It has been almost nine months since the global pandemic outbreak and we recognise we are living in a new COVID-19 normal until such a time as the virus is brought under control. In the meantime we must continue practicing the best prevention measures, including wearing of masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene and staying at home. Vale, Nick Polites OAM 1927 – 2022 PRONIA was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Nick Polites, a much loved member, volunteer and most importantly co-founder of our organisation. Nick Polites, along with Dr. Spiros Moraitis and George Papadopoulos decided to take action and assist members of our community in the early 70’s and decided to establish the Australian Greek Welfare Society (PRONIA), with the distinct aim of providing support to newly arrived migrants and their families, in overcoming the many challenges associated with settlement, communication and accessing services in a foreign land. Migration to Australia in the midst of the pandemic

Even after a few years in the country, employment and English language proficiency remain interrelated issues that hinder and slow down assimilation into the Australian culture. According to the statistics collected from the last quarter (July-September), 44.33% of people who visited the service have limited knowledge of English.
